I wrote a bit this morning covering the issue:

Pretty good coverage in the limited space you allowed yourself. If the US is a cuckold, then post needs to also mention the country of Israel.

Possibly a separate topic. Hard to tell how much the issues (relationship w/Israel v relationship w/KSA) intertwine. I don't really recall just how much grip Israel had back in the Obama years. Off hand, my first thought is they were in tight with the neocon crowd that were on the outs after Dubyah left office.

WE, not them, gave up on the relationship about 10 years ago. WE have more oil available from fracking than we need. Our marginal cost is low $60s so we buy the cheap stuff from other countries first.

10 years ago is about the time that King Abdullah died and MbS assumed power. Was the fracking push an action or pre-emptive reaction to wheels that were already in motion? I honestly do not know. I don't think we are privy to enough information to discern the true chain of cause and effect. Personally, I think the push for oil independence was just an extension of the green energy push - both designed to free the USA from ME dependence.
