Some extra time off this week so why not explore what my local banks have in the small dollar department. Nine stops produced the above tepid results, can't believe I went 0 for 4 with the Innovations. Was sure one of them would be a hole filler but no luck.

Since Jimmy Carter has now passed in 2024 perhaps we can expect his dollar coin in 2026? Just not sure if the two year rule is actually 24 months or simply the calendar year. Also, some albums have Carter's coin space before Reagan & Bush 41. That would make the date sequence out of order. It'll be out of place where ever they put it I suppose.

I was hoping that my last big dollar hunt that I needed to put me over $20k all time would be fun. It ended up being just about the worst I could imagine. A sh!tload of brand new 2009 Three Sisters Native American coins doomed me, along with several new Washington rolls. I could easily see this as having sat unopened since 2010 since there was nothing newer. I am so absolutely DONE with small dollar coins. Whatever holes I still need filled I'll buy at coin shows or eBay.

Just when I thought I was done with these wretched small dollars, one of my outlier banks calls me to say they have some that a customer dropped off. What could I do? Didn't wanna risk ruining a good connection so I picked 'em up. And wouldn't ya know it, it ends up being a really good batch. Included in the bunch was a 2004 East Caribbean States 1 dollar.

Though I've essentially "given up" small dollars, some of my banks will call me if they get big dollars. And today, the bat signal went up. But when I got there I realized there was a miscommunication. Out of all the dollars promised, only one was a big boy: a 1974-D Ike. Of the rest, just one NIFC. Kicking the small dollar habit is proving difficult but at least I don't have to re-roll a whole lousy box.

What I'll do for large dollars.

The bank once again called me to pick up a couple of stray Ikes (1971-D & 1976-D) but I ended up walking out with a full box of small dollars plus a little extra. I looked thru the bottom and saw re-rolled wrappers. Crap! But they were actually pretty good, including some new ones. I'm down to needing just one Sac (2008-D), two Pres (14-D Harding & 16-P Reagan) and nine Native Americans.
