I hope you have a Hydrocodone in you. No fun I wanted to die when I had one.

I'm pretty sure beer prevents them.

Congratulations on the indian. It's very exciting to find one.

Sugary drinks might raise kidney stone risk - But beer may help

Kidney stones can be incredibly painful for sufferers, and now a new study shows cutting sugary drinks out of your diet may reduce risk for the condition.

"Our prospective study confirms that some beverages are associated with a lower risk of kidney stone formation, whereas others are associated with a higher risk," study co-author Dr. Pietro Manual Ferraro, a kidney specialist at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Rome, said in a statement.

Kidney stones are made up of mineral and acid salt deposits that form when urine becomes concentrated, allowing the minerals to stick together and crystallize, the Mayo Clinic reports. Diet, obesity, digestive diseases, dehydration, medications and some urinary tract infections might raise risk.

Each year, more than 300,000 people go to emergency rooms for kidney stones and more than one million people visit their doctor for them, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

About 20 percent of American men and 10 percent of American women will have a kidney stone in their lifetime, according to the authors of the new study, published May 15 in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.

For the study, researchers analyzed data from three ongoing study pools involving more than 194,000 people, who are asked to fill out biennial questionnaires with information on their lifestyle and medical history. They were followed up with for a median of eight years.

People who drank one or more sugary cola drinks per day had a 23 percent higher risk of developing kidney stones than people who said they drank less than one sugary drink per week. The risk increase was 33 percent for those who drank non-cola sugary drinks like fruit punch daily.

Senior study author Dr. Gary Curhan, a kidney researcher in the department of epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health, told Reuters that, "If there's a huge number of people consuming it, then the magnitude on the public health can be quite substantial."

On the other hand, people who reported drinking beer and wine frequently had a 41 percent and 33 percent lower risk of developing stones respectively than people who did not consume the alcoholic beverages.

Also found to lower risk was caffeinated coffee, which was tied to a 26 percent drop in kidney stone odds, decaf (16 percent lower), tea (11 percent) and orange juice (12 percent).

Commenting on the study to HealthDay, Dr. Michael Palese, associate professor of urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, pointed out that sugary diets have been linked to kidney stones before.

"While there is no conclusive evidence to show that sugary drinks alone cause kidney stones, other associations with the consumption of sugary beverages has been reported," said Palese, who was not involved in the research. "This includes diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity, which have also been linked to the formation of kidney stones."

Found it the zinc pile while running my machine. I usually mostly watch the copper side and just glance at the zincs, but I guess I'll start watching closer.

Bully!

But don't change the subject. Your thread is about beer and kidney stones.

Hey adagirl, tough luck on the stone I'll send up a prayer that you get er gone quick.

Remember, it's not too late to start drinking BEER! If it's an interesting stone you should put it up on the next KSA. That's a lot of work running one through the pipes. You should be compensated, at least a little.

I asked a woman who had children and had a kidney stone what is more painful. She said you do not have to raise kidney stone.

Before receiving the pain meds in the ER, I wanted to die. I have never experienced anything like that before. I was prescribed Hydrocodone.

Nice find. I've only found 2 in all my days. Much luck to you.

Well, now I'm going to have nightmares about kidney stones. Thanks for reminding me that those exist. I really appreciate it. I have a history of kidney stones in my family, and I drink a lot of pop  . Oh well, I got semi-drunk-ish with my cousin and my brothers last night so maybe that will help!
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

I recently did a $50 bag from the bank. Got a IH in the very very end of the double run. I was very happy. I rerun my zincs, but when I do this, I run a 'lossy' zinc run. In this, I get about 2-3% zinc rejects. However, I also get almost all of the older wheats spit out in the reject hopper. What also ended up in the reject hopper were 3 THREE more IH's from that same bag. These were all put into the zinc acceptance on the first run.

I re-ran all the zincs I had laying around waiting to be dumped (about 500). I found no other IH's in them, but did pick up some older wheats (25 or so), including a 1910. I had run 'most' of these zincs 2 times.

My SOP is to run zinc accept first, where I tune in with 250 zincs, getting it to reject zero of them, and running 250 59-82 coppers, rejecting all of them. When I get it tuned like this, I do a first batch run. I try to run $200-$400 FV this way, splitting into keepers (copper and other stuff), and 'mostly' zincs. I then re-run the zincs, where I tune to get about 10 rejects for that 250 zinc test suite. I then re-run my coppers with a copper, tuning to 'good' copper accept (100% accept, 100% reject zinc, of my 250 set). I look at all rejects from the copper run, finding a lot of wheats. Actually, it was in this run, where i found that first IH in that 50 bag (a small run). At this time, I re-ran my zincs, with a higher reject rate (about 20 rejects for that 250 test suite). That is where 3 more IH's popped up.

So, be sure to look more closely at your zincolns, ESPECIALLY, if there are a lot of wheats, and a lot of pre 40 wheats. I have found only 2 other IH's besides these 4. I have not been doing this too long, but have gone through about 2k in FV pennies so far, including about 500 'hoard' that was about 75% copper which had very few wheats but 1 IH (I think the hoader was pulling wheaties out, and I was told his widow cashed in those nasty pennies). But those IH's CAN and do hide with the zincs, depending upon how you sort. If you sort using a copper penny, and have the ryedale tuned in, almost all IH's will end up in the zincoln reject bin, as will many older wheats.

Jim.
