Mother Lode

Postby OtusLotus » Tue Mar 05, 2013 8:41 pm

Went to my dump bank, and there was a person in front of me who had rolls of pennies, nickels, and dimes.

I said I would buy them, since I am a coin collector. The total was $113.

From the 9 dime rolls.. 4 silver roosies
From the 6 nickel rolls.. 4 CA nicks (1 Ni) & 4 Buffs 1934, 1937, 2 dateless..
From the 112 penny rolls... ONLY $7.23 in ZINC! That is 87% COPPER! And, for some strange reason...
...about 70% of the copper cents were 1975 in AU/BU Condition!

I have no idea why, but I am like OH YEAH!

Any ideas of what to do with the 1975s?

On days like this, we should do a headcount of RC members, just to make sure that nobody died in the last few weeks. Great score.

The likely guess is that these were a collection of coins amassed back in the 70s and 80s before much circulation had occurred on them. As a result of having been stored away somewhere, they failed to oxidize or collect much wear.

Congrats on the score!! This was an incredible feat and it sure paid off for you.

The 75's are destined to just look like shiny copper in your stash. Not much chance of them appreciating in the future.

In 1979, I bought two rolls of uncirc. 1974 Lincolns for around a buck a roll. Thirty-four years later they're worth...about a buck a roll

When I opened the first roll... and it was all shiny 1975s.. I was like NO WAY.. and then re-rolled them.

Then came the next roll, and the next.. pretty soon I had 2 coffee cans filled and then a little bin!

I have never had such a huge copper percentage before..

And the whole time, I was thinking to myself.. This is what 100% REAL copper rolls look like Ecotic!

Found the candelabra at a thrift sale at a local church!

Paid $20 for it.

You gotta love days like that. Congrats.
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

Nope. He wasn't in the line, because if he was....then some of those rolls would be a few pennies short!

Congrats! But on a very serious note, you're not mixing Beam and Cabernet Sauvignon are you?
