Wow! Very nice! Did they all come from one roll? Wish we could get CWR around here. But banks only have Loomis or other brands of already boxed and rolled coins. <sigh>

Congrats on getting 70 free pennies to check over

I usually get a lot of dark dimes in those rolls of crusty nasty pennies out of a wishing well or public fountain, nice find!

Fret not, as I frequently receive dimes in boxes of pennies rolled by Brinks. They're out there, even in BWRs as opposed to CWRs. Heck, you know it's happening when you do a dime dump with a skunk $250 box and the machine counts it as $249.80 in dimes and 2 pennies. :P In fact, from my experiences, dimes are more plentiful in BWRs than CWRs.

Great job on the free dimes, by the way!

Bags are even better sometimes. I got $9.00 in dimes out of 2 penny bags over the weekend. Think they need to tweak something in that machine! Glad I don't dump dimes there :D

I have to agree with nhsorter, I was going to actually ask what the average number of dimes a person finds in penny bags is? I have been averaging 6 dimes per $50 bag over the past year. I buy every penny bag the bank has just for that reason. Better investment than any cd out there, plus the money is in my wallet after each trip to the dump bank so I can compound my "interest" with every bag! Plus the bags are usually over about 40 to 50 pennies too. Yesterday yielded the best face value bag yet, 42 dimes, 2 wide am 2000 pennies, 1 proof 1987, 2 steel wheat pennies, 2 flat batteries, and 36 wheats. 2012 yielded a 1.9% ROI just on face value coins alone!

Funny thing is that I have found these dimes in rolls before and I am like YAY!

So I go to spend them and the cashier counts them as a penny! I am like that was a dime- they look at you like what? you want me too look for it? After dropping it into the penny slot!

Be careful went you spend these!

You can't win all the time.

It's a bummer is when you pick up CWRs like this:

Just FYI, I had to take the above picture because every time I pull a dime from a penny roll this is what I picture in my head.

There was a story of a couple doing just that- filling dime rolls with pennies and passing them off as pennies.

They apparently did it enough to get the police involved and have a investigation against them

If I recall it was just $50 face at a couple banks

You guys are lucky. I get maybe one every third bag. Weirdly I find quarters and nickels sometimes too.
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

I found maybe 10 dimes in my last 2,000 of CWRs and an extra 2 quarters in my last $.25 CWR pick up. This to make up for the 13 rolls of dime CWRs I got missing a total of 29 dimes. The rolls had bassa wood chips/flakes between the coins. I alerted my fav tellers at my primary bank.

Trade them shields out. No bank has ever turned me away on a sealed trade.

I found a great teller who has been holding back CWRs for me. Just went through $25 worth last night and found my first steel ever  . I know it's not going to pay off my mortgage but I was tickled to death when I found it. I've bought them at coin shows but never in my life have I just found one. So cool!

Also in that same lot was a 1910 and 1937 Wheatie, and some other more typical oddities pictured. Now if I can just find an Indian Head, my penny sorting bucket list will be nearly all checked off.

Finding dimes in the penny rolls is the one of the main reasons I ask for CWR's at the bank.

But I never guessed (or noticed) that there were dimes in the machine rolled pennies until I found one a few days ago.

Are dimes in machine rolled pennies really commonplace? And even more so in bags from the bank?

I'm going to have to use that as an 'excuse' to buy more pennies!

/But honey!
