http://boxofnickels.com/BoxofNickels.com/Welcome.html These guys charge $200 for $100 box of nickels. Thats crazy. I rather go to the bank myself.

Claiming 8.5 cents as the value of a nickel is a bit of a stretch. Plus they built their homepage on a Mac...that's a slippery slope right there.

I wonder how many they actually sell. I remember reading about a company out west that was selling nickels and pennies

Sure, you can go to your own bank, buy nickels, and schlep them home. But will you?
Yes.

I absolutely would go to my CU and pay FACE value for any nickels!

Charging double the cost for a box of nickels?

Foolish, IMO.

It's not like nickels are disappearing from circulation, like the Canadian penny. I can see a premium for those.

This, along with the "we have real jobs" at the end, makes me think this is a joke. They're probably making fun of people who hoard nickels, and especially the ones stupid enough to buy them.
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

The boxes of nickels are light. Maybe someone who wants to buy a box of nickels but is embarrassed will get these.

Depends if they can ship it to Europe.

The highest density circulating denomination that contains cupronickel in europe is now the 1 Euro coin. Which is about $1.30 for 7.5 grams of cupronickel.

To get the cupronickel weight equivalent of a $100 twenty two pound box of US nickels, nearly a billion Europeans that use the Euro would have to spend about $1733 US.

The highest density denomination that contains mostly copper in europe is the 10 cent Euro. Which is 13 cents for 3.65 grams of copper.

To get the copper equivalent of a $25 box of US copper pennies, in Euro 10 cent coin form you would have to spend about $277 US.

All 1, 2 and 5 cent euros are made with iron (which is still only $13 a ton to me) Of course though with the new 2006 law making it illegal to ship more than $100 worth of US pennies or nickels out of the US under 5-year jailtime penalty... Well, it makes it less appealing.
