on avr my $50 fv bags weigh 34 lbs, 58.8 bags is 1 ton.

my $100 fv 50 cal ammo cans, 68.5 lbs, 29 ammo cans is 1 ton

my $250 fv homer buckets weigh 171 lbs...11.7 buckets = 1 ton

my $2800 fv 55 gallon steel drum weighs close to 1 ton

I don't know about boxes....I guess about 118 boxes will get you to 1 ton.

I'd say 111 boxes/ton of CU pennies. Mine weigh in about 18 lb each.

Without taking out a scale, and using the usual $3,000 face equals a ton idea, I'd say approximately 120.

I've never melted cents so I don't know, but I think they would be need more buckets.

On a side note.....I always thought that it was neat that 1 cent weights 2 pennyweight.

So 10 pennies top out at about 1toz. I have used this info a couple of times in a pinch on a improvised seesaw balance scale to purchase gold.

If you say 150 coppers to the pound, that's 150 x 2000 = 300,000 pennies to the ton. Divide by 100 pennies to the dollar to get 3,000 lbs. Divide by $25 FV boxes to get 120.

This would be a tough question for FastEddy since I know he just hoards in 55 Gallon barrels.

Most weights listed in standard literature only use the weight at time of production when they are minty Fresh. As copper pennies have been circulating ovor a few decades they will have varying degrees of wear which will lighten them, requiring a great number to make a ton. If I remeber correctly, the # of copper pennies required to make a pound runs 147-154, For ease of rough calculations I usually just use 150 per pound as an average.

A loose $50 Bag usually weighs 33-34lbs. Again fore ease of calculations I use 3.33 lbs per er bag.

5 gallon buckets will hold roughly $250 face if you don;'t shake it too much and leave a little room at the top.

I store my tons in many forms.

$50 Bags, Canvas and plastic
Machine rolled $25 boxes
Buckets and kitty litter buckets

I know why you can't stop hoarding too. It;s the lure of what seems to be "Free money" You just have to apply some of your own Free labor.
