Found this today a first of us were the back is more cool than the front.

That is unique..... I some some elongated cents where some of the obverses or reverses are much cooler than the intended rolled or smashed side. Great find!!

Clean coppers are SOOO much nicer making these smash cents, than the new clad junk we have today.

I was at Luray Caverns recently and the penny smashers are now $1 and the machine provides the penny. I was planning to do a new shield cent and an old 70s copper but the machine had a sign that said "Machine stocked with bright new pennies!"

I would think the new pennies would be more brittle, and perhaps have zinc peeking thru after elongation.

I thought there would be more zinc showing as well. There is perhaps just a tiny bit around the letterijg but you really have to look to see it.
