Messing around with Sodium Hydroxide though can be dangerous because of the high PH of the chemical. It can burn your skin severly in a matter of seconds. The guys(roughnecks/derrickmen) out at the rig(s) that I have mixing this stuff have to wear thick aprons, rubber gloves up to the elbows, safety glasses and a face sheild just to cut a sack and drop it into a mixing barrel with water. They are also wearing long sleeve coveralls under all of that.
