Favorite Hard Times Rock Songs

Postby 68Camaro » Thu Apr 04, 2013 11:48 am

There are long lists of songs about the end-times and doomsday. There's one I can't think of that is bugging me, but it'll come to me eventually. In the meantime, a few that come to mind:

Code: Select all
All Along the Watchtower           Jimi Hendrix
Bad Moon Rising                    Creedance Clearwater Revival
Don't Fear the Reaper              Blue Oyster Cult
Drift Away                         Kinks
London Calling                     The Clash
Red Skies                          Fixx
When the World is Running Down     The Police

What others, if any, connect with you?

Edit - the one I was missing was "Lunatic Fringe" by Red Ryder, heard it this morning.

A local band by the name of Pan.a.ce.a has several that fit into this theme. They were a great group, got played quite a bit on local radio and even on one satellite radio station. The drummer was a math teacher at my high school. Rolled into school in a brand new Subaru WRX right after they got a record signed  They broke up a couple years ago, the lead singer went off to do his own solo stuff. Was a real bummer, I only had the chance to see them live once.

Anything off of Nine Inch Nails "Year Zero" if you can handle the language, but especially "In this Twilight" (no language.)

Another one from Pan.a.ce.a with a too much war/government kinda vibe.

I am on the look out for a fully working wind up gramophone with records from the 1920's to 1940's music. This is the ultimate end of days music and/or doomsday scenario. Also is a bonus it is non-electric. I had one once but I lost it in a canoe accident about ten years back. (I took it on a canoe trip, and yes onto the river too, lost it when my canoe flipped in the North Fork River; I couldn't negotiate the rapids as well as I thought I could) no big deal though. I will get another one again eventually, they arent that expensive. Some of the records are hard to find and in some cases pricier than the gramophone itself.

 You described a sybian to a postal employee AND you took a wind-up gramophone on a canoe. How were we not friends when I lived in the greater SL area?
