Counter stamped Coins

Postby JobIII » Tue Mar 06, 2012 9:28 pm

Alright alright alright,

I think I went a little overboard yesterday taking photos of some of my collection. Anyways, here is a link to my current Counter stamped collection. At the moment it's all pennies but I'm pretty happy with them.

http://xxjobiiixx.blogspot.com/p/counter-stamped.html

I'm proud to say that I found all of these and more over the years of sorting. Probably not all that valuable but a neat little extra from this hobby.

Enjoy!

There are two up, and both are in my top 5. The states are nice but not really all that exciting.

Nice. That's a great one. That would be one of my top picks as well.

Nice collection. I've always thought these are pretty cool. I've only found five or six myself (so far). :D

Merc,

If you are machine sorting your copper cents. you probably have a larger collection then you think. Though I will agree these aren't exactly common finds.

I believe it's GLM, and that was stamped on both sides, but I don't know the meaning.

I find that almost all counter stamps appear on the obverse. Which makes looking for them a pain. Most were found while I was pouring into the sorter. The states seem to be the most common.

Personally I'd like to find one with a Free Mason stamp.

I have found a bunch of counter stamped cents and JFK has been the most common for me. My favorite is the signing of the declaration of independance.

I found a New Mexico one this week. My daughter thought it was SOOOO cool, so tonight I am looking around to see all the counter-stamped coins I can find in various places in my coin room... pics when I can get them all together on the scanner.

This month I found Maine, Arizona, and my home turf, Connecticut. The CT is stamped onto a zinc 1982, which is the newest of all the States I've seen. I had previously thought these were done in the 1970's

Added a Half counter stamped page, http://xxjobiiixx.blogspot.com/p/counter-stamped-half-dollars.html

Will also make one for nickels, though I've really found very few non-penny counter stamped coins.
