Bought coins under grey sheet bid prices

Postby dan53 » Sun Aug 14, 2011 10:00 pm

I just bought five coins at an online auction and of those five, I got four of them under the current grey sheet bid price. Here's what I bought:

1. 1883-CC Morgan Dollar, MS-63 PCGS .. I paid: $167.82 and the grey sheet bid price: $195.00
2. 1887 Morgan Dollar, MS-65 NGC .. I paid: $165.00 and the grey sheet bid price: $170.00
3. 1890 Morgan Dollar, MS-64 NGC .. I paid: $116.46 and the grey sheet bid price: $130.00
4. 1903 Morgan Dollar, MS-65 PCGS .. I paid: $220.00 and the grey sheet bid price: $270.00

And here's the one I didn't get under the bid price:

5. 1899-O Morgan Dollar, MS-65 NGC .. I paid $198.00 and the grey sheet bid price: $180.00......but I still got it under the ask price: $200.00 and way under the FMV over at numismedia.com: $238.00.

My next auction doesn't end for 6 more days. The main coin I am after is a 1878-CC Morgan MS-64 PCGS. Oh yeah, since I was a first time buyer, I got free shipping! Cool!

Nice picks, Dan. I especially like the 1903-P MS65 choice. That's a great grade to have for that date&mint.
