I have been enjoying reading everyone's posts.. Sorry to hear about your source drying up Country. That was cool to at least end it with a couple of Barber's. Could not ask for a better ending than that.

Here we go for today. I got a first for myself today!!

Bank #1 $6.00 in Teller Halves.
Skunk

Bank #2 $4.00 in Teller Halves. (1 40%)
(1) 1968-D

Bank #3 $2.50 in Teller Halves.
Skunk

Bank #4 $169.00 Halves from coin counter. (By far my best score of the day! It also netted a first for me.) (1 90% and 30 40%)
(1) 1953-S Booker T. Washington Commemorative Halve! My first Commemorative and it was a 90%.
(2) 1965
(4) 1966
(10) 1967
(7) 1968-D
(7) 1969-D

This bag was long 5 halves and also contained the following
(3) I think Great Britain 50 Pence
(2) Canadian $2.00 Coins (Toonies)
(1) Italian 100 Lira
(2) Keys

I think someone must have dumped their collection. I have reserved the Dimes and Quarters from the counter to pick-up tomorrow. They dropped at the same time as the halves did today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :D

Bank #5 $12.50 Teller Halves.
Skunk

Bank #6 $220.00 in CWR Halves (2 40%)
(1) 1965
(1) 1969-D

Bank #7

Box #1 $500.00 Halves
Skunk

Box #2 $500.00 Halves (1 40%)
(1) 1967

Box #3 $500.00 Halves
Skunk

Box #4 $500.00 Halves
Skunk

Bank #8 $30.00 CWR Halves (1 40%)
(1) 1966

Great find Dumster Diver!

Been searching a bunch of coins a friend of mine has saved over the years. He doesnt care about silver or copper so he told me to take what I want and dump the rest on my weekly dump runs and bring him back the FRN's. With his protest, any AU I find I am paying him around melt. I am not keeping totals searched only nice finds I get.

AU finds....So far I have found:
1 - 1964 dime
1 - 1944P war Nickel

Also getting lots of copper in this stash. Will post these over on the CU handsorter thread.

CU found:
246 CU Memorials
3 wheats (1912 the oldest)

Will report more as I dig through these.

Halves

box 1 Skunk. It did have a 2008 proof in it, but it was intentionally defaced. They even scratched off the mint mark.

box 2 2-40%.

Did a morning road trip today. Here is how it went at the 9 banks (out of about 25 i visited) that actually had any halves:

Bank 1 - $2.00 in halves = (1) 40%
Bank 2 - $50.00 in halves = (4) 40% and (1) 90%
Bank 3 - $4.00 in halves = (1) 40%
Bank 4 - $10.00 in halves = skunk
Bank 5 - $15.00 in halves = (2) 40% and (6) 90%
Bank 6 - $1.50 in halves = skunk
Bank 7 - $10.50 in halves = (1) 90%
Bank 8 - $5.50 in halves = skunk
Bank 9 - $7.00 in halves = (1) 40% and (6) 90%

The totals = $105.50 in halves = (9) 40% and (14) 90%

Silver dimes continue to be scarce in my neighborhood this year. Ten boxes searched since last report . . . 4 keepers.

Brinks box 1: skunk
Brinks box 2: '53D
Brinks box 3: skunk
Brinks box 4: skunk
Loomis box 1: skunk
Loomis box 2: '51D
Brinks box 5: skunk
Brinks box 6: '64D
Brinks box 7: '56
Brinks box 8: skunk

Had better luck with a single box of halves.

Loomis box: '63D, '64, '65, '67 (2)

Total: 4 silver dimes, 2 90% halves and 3 40% halves.

Dang Bama you started out sooo strong.. I feel your pain though. My boxes seem to be drying up as well. I am out trying to hunt down any silver I can, even driving and calling bank to bank. I am actively seeking out coin counter bags. Luckily I live near a large city with a lot of banks. Good luck on the hunt.

It's about time

$300. CWR
20 - 1968D 40% JFK

My source bank forgot to order my halves this week. The teller asked if I wanted some rolls a customer brought in so of course I said yes.
There was $300.00 in rolls 1 roll was a full roll of 1968d halves. It was the 4th roll I opened so my hopes were high. It was the only roll with silver but I'm not complaining I'm thrilled. It broke my dry spell.

How do you work all these banks? Do you go thru one teller line and ask her to ask all the other teller's to sell all their loose and rolled halves? Or are you standing in line repeatedly to approach each teller individually? You trippers are the ones hitting the big scores, not the orderers.

When I get to the teller I ask her if she has any half dollar coins available. After she says yes or no, I ask her if any other tellers do, and she usually calls over to them. Sometimes they take it upon themselves to ask the other tellers without me asking them to, and sometimes the other tellers overhear me and call out that they have some. One thing that's common in most banks is that tellers are eager to get rid of their half dollars.

I do 7 boxes of halves every week, but I really look forward to the road trips because , like you said, the big scores are there to be had.

Just curious, how is this different than finding a few silvers in the coin machine?
