Went to the bank today and picked up.....guess what.....drum roll please......NICKELS!

It's been a while since I've sorted any, so I figured what the hell.

Hope you get lucky...my bank stopped getting boxes for me unless I open a "business" account (which probably involves paying higher monthly "service fees").

It is a credit union, not a bank....maybe that's why I'm still able to get them. The teller looked at me funny when I asked her to fetch me 50 FV in nickels!

My, how the world has changed since the last post in this thread. The credit union that is holding my cash hostage has closed their lobbies so I have no access to the coin counters. I'm getting old and don't feel like hauling my nickels if I should ever need to move quickly. What's the gold to nickel ratio right now? LOL

I think you meant 100 million instead of 1 m. Actually, trivia buffs might be interested to know that the last circulation strike U.S. nickel with a mintage under 1 million was the 1926-S Buffalo nickel with 970,000 minted.

I respectfully disagree. The 2919-P mintage quoted by shinnosuke above was 752,880,000. The 2022 Red Book says it was 567,854,400 instead.

Been forever since I was able to get nickels. Today I hit up several cu and banks. First roll I looked at. Had a wartime coin. Jinxed.

I love finding those. Never found a war nickel ender yet. Found 3 of them in my last $100 box. After removing the paper I'm able to identify war nickels by their rims with 90% accuracy. Those damn '64s have fooled me a few times though.

A few of us have been sorting nickels in various ways. The most common seems to be by decade. I was doing this and thought about it and decided that if I am going to the trouble of looking at the date anyway, why not break them completely down. So I bought a couple of boxes of nickel tubes and started breaking them down by date and mint.

Down the road the fact that the composition will likely change, Gresham's law says that many of these will disappear and may command a premium when not easily found in circulation.
Or my grand children will have a good start on the coin business.
