Silver Above $50 For First Time Ever!

Postby Recyclersteve » Fri Oct 10, 2025 10:23 pm

I figured I’d log into RC and there would be tons of talk about spot silver FINALLY surpassing $50 an oz. for the first time ever.

We got close in 1980 and 2011 and maybe futures surpassed $50 briefly, but the spot price NEVER got there til this week.

I saw a YT video where a dealer in Florida said refineries are so backed up that they are encouraging dealers to take vacations.

It’s been a lot of fun trading the SLV exchange traded fund (and options) in the stock market. Without silver, I’d have likely had one of my worst weeks of the year in the stock market with all the tariff fears, etc.

Isn’t anyone else excited about what happened this week?

And only a handful of people here post about it or seem to care about it.

Sad.

What the hell has happened to this forum?

I'm watching the silver space quite closely, but as there didn't seem to be a lot of interest around here, I haven't shared a lot of my thoughts/observations. I'm mostly posting about silver on X and pmbug.com. I posted a long review of yesterday's activity here:

$50 is nice, but it's just the beginning. There is a lot happening behind the scenes of the LBMA spot market!

America isn't in on it. Seriously. Public is occasionally talking about gold but I hear NOTHING about silver "at the water cooler". Now, the east is very much into it but we need Asia's knowledge of hard money and protecting savings to make it over here. I keep reading that younger investors are buying AI stocks or tech stocks in general. In my world in talking to younger people at work and my sons friends, they aren't buying those stocks. Many I talk to just put their 401k money into those "30 to go" funds. They don't care. Put it into a fund that they don't care about and 30 years from now they will be millionaires. So they think.

Another issue or potential driver for a future push for silver is that regardless of the stock market going up there is still TRILLIONS of dollars sitting in money markets doing nothing. If silver catches some mainstream press and just a portion of that cash goes into metals, then hold on tight.

Steve, I am excited about silver over 50. But this is the quietest bull market I have seen.

Frankly, keep stacking

Not to throw water on the parade, but $50.00 silver in 1980 is equivalent to $196.00 today.

Or, $50.00 silver today is $12.72 spot in 1980.

$50, as pmbug says, is just the start. This time things really ARE different, in ways that past predictions were not based on. I don't like to make specific target/timing predictions because it is too easy to be wrong, but I'm not selling any silver for some price rise to come, and even then, if I do, it will only be to convert some to gold. The bulk of my stash I will die with and pass on to my children (who each already have their own stash).

... Traders described a market where liquidity has almost entirely dried up, leaving anyone short spot silver struggling to source metal and forced to pay crippling borrowing costs to roll their positions to a later date.

And the squeeze has become so dramatic that some traders have rushed to book slots in the cargo holds of transatlantic flights for bulky silver bars — an expensive mode of transport typically reserved for more valuable gold — to profit off the massive premiums in London.

Most (or maybe none) of you probably don't remember me, but hello to you all. Hope everyone is well.

I was more active on here 10-15 years ago when coin roll hunting was all the rage. TD shutting down their machines killed my dumping, and that killed my hunting. I still open Realcent a couple of times a month (admittedly a terrible community member) to see what's being said.

The good news is that of the over 2,000 ounces of silver I found in boxes at face value, I have sold zero. :D Of the many pieces of knowledge I took away from all the good members here, the best one was to keep my hands strong.

Isn’t it nice to be in a position of strength? Also, don’t be a stranger!

Fifty shillings be a paltry sum, yet less scornful than aught under thirty. My heart shall stir when the House of Morgan ceaseth its affronts upon us. A word to the brethren of the Real Cent: Let not this fervor tempt thee to part with thy silver.

According to Grok:
The spot price of silver on January 1, 2025, was $28.968 USD per troy ounce, marking the yearly low for 2025 amid broader market fluctuations. This data comes from historical exchange rate records for the United States, which track daily silver prices in USD for the year. For context, the average silver price for 2025 was $35.580 per ounce, with a high of $50.079 on October 10, 2025.

Thx for that confirmation of being above $50!

As of 12:35am EST on Monday the 13th, spot silver is bid $51.40. My guesstimate is that if it can be above $52 for at least two consecutive days with heavy volume for SLV, then we will likely go sharply higher by the end of the year and beyond.
For such a significant breakout, this is getting very little attention!

Welcome back, Nick!

I'm excited about $50 silver but I'm watching with intense fascination the Au/Ag ratio. Down to 78 to 1 right now. If I remember correctly, it was 101/1 not to long ago.

I was pounding the table on SLV for about 6 weeks or so and the move up has been fantastic.

Although I think it will still go higher, SLV needs to have a modest pullback. Therefore, I sold my 7 silver positions (stock and options) Thursday, Friday and Monday with spectacular results.

Waiting to buy again on a fair pullback.

One cautionary note about SLV. As best as I can tell, they don’t have physical silver in a vault somewhere to back up what we trade. On the other hand, the U.S. dollar hasn’t been backed up by gold for decades.
