As it passed $40 today I was thinking how there isn't the excitement that was palpable when it passed $40 back in 2010 and it made me a little sad. But then my logic clicked in and looking back on my ever expanding number of years on Earth that have given me a little bit of wisdom (and tapping into the many asset mania's I have seen starting with 1990s tech stocks), I realized that the public STILL is not interested in silver! This is an absolutely great thing and tells me if you haven't topped off your stack, get it while you can because if you are in it for some gains, the biggest moves come at the end of the bull run.

Just keep stacking, it's that simple

I'm slightly less excited because spot didn't go over 40, yet. But it was a nice rise for the day.

The USD is worth less and less as time passes. Inflation is not going away.

Even with the price manipulation, there is no way silver (and gold) cannot go up.

This is a good day for us silver brothers.

As mentioned by others, futures are now over 40, but that doesn't apply to me. I look at coinflation which showed 39.82 earlier today. That represents around a 7-8 dollar increase from the beginning of the calendar year. Would love to see another 7-8 dollar increase.

Kitco says silver hit $40.02 on Friday.

Getting ready to buy call contracts on the SLV exchange traded fund, which is something I normally would NEVER do. Don’t want to tip my hand on the strike price or expiration date til after my order fills.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

AI Overview

Silver's nominal all-time high occurred on January 18, 1980, when it reached a price of approximately $49.45 per ounce during the Hunt brothers' attempt to corner the market. In April 2011, silver came close to this record, hitting about $48.70 per ounce. However, when adjusted for inflation, the 1980 peak would be significantly higher, making it the true historic high.

Key Details

Nominal High:

$49.45 per ounce on January 18, 1980.

Context:

The 1980 price was driven by a speculative market cornering attempt by the Hunt brothers, which ultimately led to the price collapsing.

Near-Record High:

In April 2011, silver reached a price of approximately $48.70 per ounce, which was a decades-long all-time high in nominal terms.

Inflation-Adjusted High:

Considering inflation, the 1980 price represents silver's true highest point, equating to over $180 in 2023 dollars.

Don't think I'm going to stay up late enough to watch what happens overnight, but it's starting to look like silver could break $41 again tonight.

And here you go…

I bought $48 call options which roughly equates to silver just above $50. The options expire January, 2027 so I’ve got close to 1-1/2 years.

I wanted to avoid the likely crowd that usually appears at big round strike prices like $50.

Here is the really cool part. Let’s just say silver is $40 now to use a round number. If you own physical silver and it goes to $80, you double your money, which is nice.

Now, let’s say it only goes to $75 instead of $80. With my call options my profit would likely be around 1,000% instead of 100%. That’s what I love about options. The downside is that if silver goes up only slightly or goes sideways til 1/27, my options expire worthless and I LOSE EVERYTHING- yes lose 100%. So you better be very confident in your thesis and timing (expiration date) before pulling the trigger.

Because of the potential reward, it might be worth watching a few YouTube videos on options to see if they are worth considering.

As in deliberate? :P

The excitement of the past years of Realcent seems to have left the building.

Silver at a 13 year high is a major event. It certainly took long enough!

I guess it's like 68 said, many members from the old days are gone; they lost interest, sold their Au/Ag/Cu a while ago, or they died (RIP).

I believe you meant 14 year high.

Several potential catalysts for silver that get little to no attention that could be absolutely huge:

1) Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffett) owns over $5 billion in silver. What if they (or someone else influential like Elon Musk) say they have bought more silver? Frankly, I wouldn’t put it past Donald Trump to potentially say something nice about silver. I wonder if Trump owns silver in any form right now.

2) Think about the crypto gang. When someone challenges them to diversify into something more mainstream that could also go up sharply, they might consider either physical silver, the SLV exchange traded fund, or silver call options.

3) Ditto for the meme stock crowd. Think about what happened to GameStop in early 2021. It went from $17.08 on 1/8/21 to an astounding $483.00 on 1/28/21. That’s a gain of 2,728% in about 3 weeks! If someone can motivate even 10-20% of that crowd, the rally could be really special.

4) AI (artificial intelligence) is getting tons of attention and rightfully so. You can’t have AI without silver and many don’t fully get that yet.

5) Let’s assume there is a cartel of some type with 5-8 large financial firms and hedge funds that has been suppressing the price of silver for decades. What if in one of their top secret meetings an influential member says, “I can’t do this anymore. Our company is going long now.” I’d love to be the proverbial fly on the wall in that meeting!!

What other potential catalysts do people see?
