How to prevent verdigris?

I have a small hoard of copper pennies from the last 30 years. They are nothing of real value but I recently noticed I have significant verdigris going on. How do I prevent this from getting worse and how to I prevent it from happening at all?

Not sure I have any guarantees but keep 1) the infected coins away from the.others (one reason I started segregating the two, pulling all the dirty.coppers out, and 2) keep in dry place.

Can't beat that advice. Segregate and keep dry. I have a 45 watt heat stick in the safe. Overkill, but it does keep everything dry.

What is a heat stick? Should I have such in my safe as well?
My safe is rather large and is not in a climate controlled area.

This is the one I use

and it has worked well for me so far. I have had it for about 4-5 years now.

For moisture removal, the silica packs used in gun safes work real well, too.

Keep your coins away from anything with chlorine in it (like PVC pipes or buckets). You will even find some coins shops selling plastic coin holders with chlorine in the plastic. Not good for coins.
