The major or minor varieties?
The minor varieties are fairly common and you with a little luck you can get one in XF or better. The major variety is really rare and I did not found one in all the years I was looking for DDO's.

I have found a couple of them. I have not found any of the big 3 that are worth $100 to a couple thousand. The die's that I have found usually sell for $10 to $20.

I found it was easiest to see them by looking at "Liberty" particularly the "L" and "Y". and or "Trust". These words stood out the most for the minor DDO varieties. Some people on this site have found 1983 DDR's which is simply amazing. But I wore myself out looking for these Double Dies before claiming an example for my collection.
At least the 1972 is a copper coin. So I could still have one sitting safely in with the others, waiting for me to find it.

I found 3 of the easier, less valuable ones in one week.
I look at the date for the big money one.
Next I look at IN GOD WE TRUST.
Found some cool doubling there.
I might still have them somewhere.

Here's a shot of one of the lessor value DDO's!

Not much on the date or LIBERTY.
I forgot which variety this on is.

Those 3 coins I found came from $300 face copper. I can't tell you how many normal 1972 coins I went through but it was MANY!!!!!
They are still out there.

This site shows examples of the different ones.
