Do I need to sort my coins before using the Coinstar kiosk?

No. Coinstar accepts any quantity of unsorted coins in your local currency. Coinstar's patented technology allows our processors to filter out foreign coins and other debris. However, these items may not be returned by our processors so it is a good idea to remove such items as Eisenhower silver dollars; 1943 steel pennies; foreign, damaged or sticky coins; pure silver coinage and other debris from your stored coins.

Eisenhower silver dollars? What about the Clad Ikes?

Last couple of visits:

Bahamas 5 cents (2005)
Canada 10 cents (2002)
Great Britain 1 penny (1989)

...and 14 cents in clad and zincolns.

At Wal-Mart yesterday w/ wifelet getting groceries....been some time since I was there. Wandered by the customer service area and the Coinstar.

The reject bin was full of coins - $5 in quarters (all clad), and 2 nickels (both relatively recent). Was really hoping to see a early arrival of Silver Santa in all that, but $5 is $5.

Rosco - believe me - I bet I had at least 20 Coinstar checks where there was nothing in the bin - so much so that I stopped even going to Wal-Mart to check the machines. My Nov 19 hit was completely out of the ordinary, and only occurred 'cause I was there w/ the wife.

My guess is that they just used incorrect nomenclature (since Ikes are the same size as Silver dollars). I'd imagine the machines wouldn't process any Ikes (clad or silver).

Checked the reject chute on the Scancoin at my local bank and got a $10.00 dollar coin from Jamaica. I dont know if their dollar is the same as ours, but the coin is the size of a quarter. This coin also has medal alignment (heads and tails same alignment).

$6.75 in clad quarters (x23) and halves (x2) today. How no one scooped these up is beyond me.

The Third mention of half dollar coins, by my count. Two recent mentions. I didn't know CoinStar "took" these until recently. Still wonder about IKES.

I pulled a dirty dime from the reject bin of the coinstar at my Kroger this past friday. Was all excited, couldn't read the date because it was so dirty. Must be a silver right? Scraped it with my fingernail and worked it with spit and a Kleenex only to reveal....2003. Hey, at least I was up 10 cents on the day.

10 Jamaican dollars is about 8 cents in the U.S. per xe.com.

Couple of nice oddities left on the ledge today - a flattened penny from Bass Pro Shops, and the showstopper: a 1942-S Merc.

Went to the other Wal_mart in town today, and stopped by the Coin-Star in this store. There was a fellow using it. Waited for him to get done. He finished w/o checking the reject bin! When he left, I wandered over - in the bin were 3 dimes, 2 clad Roosies, and a Canadian. Still no visit from Silver Santa, but its $.30 in my pocket.

Was running errands over lunch in the S end of town, so I hit the Wal-Mart out that way - figured I'd check the Coin-Star and see if I could find
any thing for wifelet for Christmas.

The Coin-Star reject bin held the following:

2011 Canadian $.25
1964 Canadian $.05 (should be pure nickel if my thinking is correct)
2013 Canadian $.10 (actually - I found this in the input tray)
2015 Euro $.02
1984D Lincoln
1979D Lincoln
1961 Roosie A visit by Silver Santa!!!!!

All of the coins were nasty-sticky - but soap and water do wonders.

Made my day!! :D

First coinstar score in a long time in Tampa. Local Winn-Dixie.....14 clad dimes, 3 Canadian dimes, 5 copper lincolns, 8 zincs, 3 wheat pennies, 3 nickels, 1 Panama quarter and YAY - 1 silver roosie (1959). This was right before they closed for the night.....weird that the tray was so full.
