Thanks- yep, I get the transition to a diff metal, like had been the case with the penny, but I did not know if the OP was hinting to the fact that minting of that coin might just stop overnight, or, if they meant otherwise. That's all.

Get them now before TPTB remove them from circulation.

Are you saying that the US Government would simply stop minting them? I'm not trying to sound smart in any way, just curious as to what could/might happen.

Yes, or make them out of steel. Even zinc is getting too expensive now.

Some countries use plastic. It looks like play money!

You are correct, actually ten years and change (no pun intended). In the Summer of 2011, it got up to $11.22 a pound, but was down to approximately 9 by the end of the year. 2011 was my first year of pulling them. Wish I had started sooner.

In 2012 Ni metal was close to $30.00 per pound. I know because I was selling $5.00 in face (1 lb.) For $36.00 shipped.

Congratulations on your sales (36 cents per nickel is awesome); HOWEVER, you are off by at least 2 years, maybe more. Your $30.00 per pound quote may have existed for a shot time, but it was more like 2010, maybe even before that. I remember 2012 extremely well as that was my first year of selling copper and CAD nickel. I was checking metal prices almost every day. Perhaps other members here can chime in on previous prices.

Ok. You are right. Time Flies. It was 2007. Ni reached $54,000.00/ton. I must have been getting a bit of a premium at the time for the nickels price was selling. I was one of the very first, if not the first eBay sellers that started selling Canadian nickels as Ni bullion. I made a killing at the time.

Hello, I'm from the IRS and I must say that your 2007 tax returns don't seem to indicate that you made a killing, as you say. I'll be right back with our pit bulls and colonoscopy team to begin your audit.

Yes, but CA's are much harder to find these days.

Don't forget the older French Francs as well, also 99% Ni.

Yes, welcome back!

I hope more people come back and start posting. The traffic on this forum has been slow for many years. I noticed it started coming back to life during 2020. Nice to see.
