Upgrade to VPS Hosting

Thanks to the revenue generated by our affiliate links, Realcent will soon be upgraded to a Virtual Private Server. This should result in much better performance during KSAs and rolling sales as we get into the busier fall and winter months

There should be minimal interruption during the upgrade, but I will have the forum closed for a short time to do a full backup and make the move. I am tentatively scheduling the upgrade for Thursday night.

Awesome!

Amazon would be a great affiliate link to consider. I do a lot of coinstar dumping to buy stuff there.

Thanks for this great website! The least we can do is to hit a few of the affilate links.

Looks like it's already on the list ;)

This is going to be delayed until next week. I now have to leave a day earlier than expected for a 3-day work trip and I don't want to rush through the migration.

I am currently performing full back-ups. Then...

#1 - Migrating to VPS hosting
#2 - Updating forum software

I then have plans to make site navigation a little easier, but they may or may not happen today depending on how long the first two steps take.

The forum will be closed for a short time or two during these updates.

I apologize that this has been put off so long, I have just had one thing after another lately and haven't had a good enough chunk of time to commit to the project until now.

We have successfully migrated to VPS hosting. The forum will be closed briefly again as soon as I get my FTP connection back and can update the forum software.

Hit a few bumps in the road but we are now running on a Virtual Private Server with the most up-to-date version of the forum software. We should experience better performance during periods of heavy traffic.

If you notice any bugs, please report them here. If you notice an improvement in performance, feel free to post about that too

I'm headed to the sandbox to work on some new features...

Seems a little faster to me, but I also just upgraded from 3MB/s internet service to 8MB/s internet service at the office, so that might be why

I think it seems a little faster.
Thanks for all the hard work.

How about we give the Mini-Chat a workout and see what this new server can do

30Mbps cable connection here, and it's doing great. Are you using the same host as BS?

Nope, we're still with Bluehost. I know BS had a lot of problems with them but my experiences have been much better. I think delaying the move to VPS was actually a good thing as the service just launched over the summer and they have worked some of the bugs out. It's half the cost of the plan BS is on for comparable specs. We'll see how it plays out.

Just wanted to comment that Doc's auction last night was very sluggish: many times a 30 sec refresh. I did see that there were over 40 at the same time online on his auction thread. As folks left (20+ left on the thread), it got a little better. There seems to be a limit on how many may be online on a single thread; perhaps 60 or so before it locks up. Just my 2c.
