50 D Jefferson

 Found Oct. 15th. That makes the 7th set put together. I was trying to remember when I found the one before but can't so my best guess is about 400 boxes ago. Still on the hunt for more. HH all, Mark

How many nickels did you search to find seven 50-D's?
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

Please note that ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- sometimes substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) as well.

#8 came yesterday, just 36 days after #7. I'd say about 120 boxes searched in that time as last trash day I sent out 28 empties. The first one is the hard one. HH all, Mark

I meant to ask you because I am still looking for them, how many 38S and 39D have you found. I hold my breath as I turn over any 38, 39 and 50 looking for a mint mark.

'39D, I have 1 left for my next set (sold half dozen). '38S, I have 25 or 30. Be sure to look for "Doubled Monticello and five cents" on your 39P's, I found one in less than 300 stockpiled and sold for $45 to a dealer in my coin club. HH Mark

Thanks for the heads up. I have a roll of 39P's set aside and will take a look. If you don't mind me asking, with the volume of nickels you go through, which ones do you keep?

Wow, 7 sets! I found one 50-D, but I wasn't able to find the 43-D or 44-S before my bank cut me off... oh well, maybe some day.
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

BUMP. This is a pretty cool thread. It took me 9 years to pull a 1950 D from bankroll. I pulled it in early March of 2020. I then pulled another one last year, so I have two. But I am not a set builder. One final comment on "50 D: mintage was 2.63 million. Meanwhile, a 1948 King George nickel has a mintage of only 1.8 million! But lacks the value of the 1950 D Jefferson.
Buy rolls NOW while you still can!

In decades of collecting and going through rolls I have NEVER found a 50-D. But, as a consolation, I have found some nice stuff this year- an 1872 Indian cent this past summer and 3 silver dollars (1- 21S plus 2- 22S) in the past couple weeks or so.

The penny was in a roll. I got the dollars by asking for any halves or dollar coins they had.

Since my previous post I've found...none. :(

I am closer to completing my 50-P full roll though. Only 17 to go.
