Silver4face wrote:Although I have not been reporting results lately, I have had pretty decent luck sorting nickels. Last Friday, I averaged two keepers per roll with the main highlights being a 1925 Buffalo nickel, a 1938 Jefferson, a 1940 in XF condition and several late 60's in showroom condition.

However, this morning I opened 15 CWR's and pulled only TWO keepers, neither of which generated excitement. The two keepers were a 1941 and a 1973 Canadian. Unlike last week, it was not worth the time.

Your avg is SO high compared to AZ it is Not funny.

Well folks... The OL left for the weekend, without leaving her truck keys. Good thing I have a second bag of nickels...and some pennies too.

First handful. Rat a tat tat went my knocker.

1950 ...p.oh well. It is not like that one is common, either.

5 Canadian nickels - 3 of them are .999

And a 1997 S proof as mentioned in proof thread.

$100 Loomis box that was ordered from a local bank. Decided to tabulate results a little different than normal.
1960-1969 83 (I do not keep these unless BU)
1950-1959 16
1940-1949 10 including one War
Others: 4 Canadian nickels but none were .999
1 proof nickel (reported in proof thread)

Opened 15 Loomis rolls this morning with pretty good results: 10 pre 1960 inc a 1950
Also two Canadian .999 nickels

Opened 20 CWR'S this afternoon with very poor results: a '58 , a '59 and a severely worn down 1940 S . I suspect most of these rolls were searched and unmarked.

$200 report, roughly half were CWR'S. 9 banks contributed to this three day sort.
44 pre 1960, but NO wars and no Buffs
Best coin was a low mintage 1950

Also pulled 15 Canadian nickels inc 4 .999

$80 report (30 CWR'S and 10 Loomis rolls)

21 older Jefferson (1940-1959) but no silver
1 dateless buffalo nickel
6 Canadian nickels, only one was a .999

These results aren't bad considering that I was shutout the first five rolls

Recently went on a binge opening mass quantities of nickels. I tabulated three batches which means three separate posts. First batch was sorted on 6-5-23
$200 face. (92 CWR'S & 8 LOOMIS)

35 pre 1960, but NO wars or buffs
16 CAD including 6 pre 1982
one proof (1973 S)

NOTE: pulled a decent 1940 s mint from the very last roll

2nd batch was sorted on 6-8-23
$100 Face. (39 CWR'S & 11 bwr - string)

27 pre 1960 including THREE WARS and a 1938.
Surprisingly NO Canadians

Comment: Obviously each war is worth much more than the 1938; HOWEVER, the 1938 is actually a much better find if you look at scarcity.

Note: one Bermuda fish and one 5-cent EURO

You got a box that was mixed with both paper and plastic wrappers? Thats odd. Was this a box put together by the CU or was it a sealed box from one of the coin suppliers?
Also odd that there were rolls with no new coins.

One odd coin.
We know, I cannot take pictures so...
10 on one side, other has a palm tree with crossed cutlasses under.

Mid east?? Iran, Iraq.. As the box of coins came from the CU on base at Fort Hauchuca, az.

That comes out to 19 keepers per box OR approximately one every three rolls (actually one per 2.6) The numbers would be much worse if you subtract out the "2 almost solid rolls of 50's). But I'm glad you were able to get those. Were any of them from 1950? The 1950 D is the grand poobah of Jeffersons; however, the 1950 P is also an excellent find and a very underrated coin.

$58 face (all 29 rolls were CWR)

12 pre 1960 with the oldest being 1939
9 CAD nickels, but only one being a .999

Note: most of the keepers came in the last ten rolls; the first 19 rolls were very bad.

$130 face sorted early last week. The 65 rolls were approximately half CWR and half bwr.

39 pre 1960 including three no-date BUFFS

8 CANADIAN nickels, but only one of those was a .999 nickel. Also one proof reported in the proof thread.

12 pre 1960 inc a WAR and a no-date buff.
Also two CAD, one of those a .999
